Keeping Clean Showers While Camping

One of the problems with roughing it is that there are some luxuries of home that are difficult to give up. One that you might find yourself missing while on a long camping trip is a nice, hot shower. A good shower when camping is not just a luxury, but a way to keep yourself clean while in the great outdoors. However, it’s not like you can transport your entire bathroom with you to the great outdoors. If you want to ensure that you can shower while camping, you have but a few options to work with.

Portable Solutions

One of the best options for showers while camping, particularly if you’re hiking to your camp spot, is a portable shower. Portable showers consist of a plastic bag to hold water and a hose leading to a shower head. With these portable camping showers, the sun will hit the bag when filled with water, heating it up so your shower isn’t cold. Usually this setup has a bag with two plastics, clear on one side to let sunlight in and black on the other to help absorb and radiate heat, using the sun’s energy more efficiently. The benefit of this method is that it’s a low weight system that works without any external power.

Propane

Just as it’s useful for camp stoves and lanterns, sometimes propane is the key to a hot shower while camping. These systems use propane as fuel to power miniature hot water heaters. These have the advantage of providing hot water on demand, whether morning or night, unlike the more portable bag systems, which are at their most useful late in the day. Of course, these propane systems are a little bulky and more difficult to pack in a bag. Still, if you plan to stay in a cabin or are driving to your campsite, that won’t impact you much.

Campground Facilities

If neither of these ideas appeals to you, then your best bet is to locate your campgrounds near a camping shower facility. These facilities will provide you with hot water for keeping clean, and while not necessarily decked out with the comforts of home, do keep you from having to go dirty while on your camping trip. Just keep in mind that using these may take planning when you select your campground, or a little hike to get to the shower facility. Whether you take along a portable solution or use what the campground has provided you, showers while camping can be had so you get the cleanliness you need.
